Library eBooks and Audio Books with Libby

1. Download the Libby app from your device’s app store.

2. Open the Libby app. Tap Hi!

Scroll down and follow the prompts to find your library.

Tap library on the map.

The Wisconsin Public Library Consortium – Bridges Library System option will appear.

Tap “This Is My Library.”

3. Tap “Add Your Card.”

Select “Bridges Library System” and enter your library card number and pin/password to sign in. (For cards issued before 11/2012, your pin is your birth date (mm/dd/yyyy); for cards issued after 11/2012, it is the last four digits of your phone number.)

4. Search for a title or browse the highlighted booklists.

Tap a book cover to borrow or see more information.

If an item is checked out, you can place a hold.

5. To read right away, tap Open Book.

Controls to read are at the bottom.

Main Controls

At the bottom of the screen, the middle circle will display your current title. Tap to read.

You can also toggle between “Shelf” (to view all of your items, holds, etc.) and “Library” (to browse and add new titles).

To return eBooks early

Titles are automatically returned to the library on their due date.

If you finish a title early, you can return it before its due date using the steps below:

- Tap Shelf.
- Tap the title jacket.
- Tap Return Title to Library, then tap Return.

Helpful Hints

Changing Font Size

In the reader, go to > Reading Settings. From there, drag the "Text scale" slider to get the right size.

Determining Title Availability

On a search results page or a title details page, a Borrow link indicates that a title is available to borrow.

A Place a hold link indicates that the title is not currently available.

Changing Your Loan Period

You can change your loan period for each title before you borrow it.

After you tap Borrow, tap the underlined loan period on the confirmation page (before you tap Borrow! again). Then, select a new loan period for that title. Loan periods vary by library and by format.

Sorting and Filtering

To set sort and filter preferences for all searches and title lists:

  • Tap the plus sign to update preferences like availability, language, and audience. Then, tap Apply Preferences.

To sort and filter a specific search or title list, you can:

  • Tap the format and genre links above your results.
  • Tap Refine above the first result, then choose Sort by or any of the other refinements.
  • Tap the plus sign to search within results.

How long can I borrow an item?

7 days. This can be extended up to 21 days by changing the settings in your account.

Can I renew?

Items can be renewed if another user does not have a hold on the title. The option to renew a title will appear on your Checkouts page within 3 days of the title’s expiration date.

How many items can I check out at once?

You can have up to 10 items checked out at any given time.

Can I return items early?

From the Checkouts page, tap “Return Title” under the book you would like to return. If the item has already been downloaded, you can return it using the software or app you used to download it.

How many books can I place on hold?

You can place up to 10 titles on hold at a time. You’ll receive an email notification when a title you placed on hold becomes available. Once the email is sent, you’ll have 3 days (72 hours) to borrow the title before your hold is cancelled. Or, turn on automatic borrowing to make sure you never miss a hold.
